About Northern

Northern operates one of the UK's largest rail networks, covering the north of England from Liverpool and Manchester to Leeds, Sheffield, Nottingham, and the Yorkshire coast. It runs a mix of suburban, rural, and inter-urban services.

Northern was brought into public ownership in 2020 and is now operated by Northern Trains Limited, a subsidiary of the DfT.

Northern uses the DR15 Delay Repay scheme. This means you can claim compensation for delays of just 15 minutes or more — 25% of a single fare for 15-29 minutes, 50% for 30-59 minutes, and 100% for 60+ minutes. You have 28 days from the date of travel to submit a claim.
