About ScotRail
ScotRail operates the majority of passenger rail services in Scotland, covering routes from the Central Belt to the Highlands, Borders, and the far north. It is Scotland's national rail operator, serving over 350 stations.
ScotRail was brought into public ownership in 2022 and is now operated by ScotRail Trains Limited, owned by the Scottish Government.
ScotRail uses the DR30 Delay Repay scheme. This means compensation starts at delays of 30 minutes — 50% of a single fare for 30-59 minutes and 100% for 60+ minutes. Delays under 30 minutes are not eligible. You have 28 days from the date of travel to submit a claim.

- ScotRail uses the DR30 scheme under its operating agreement with the Scottish Government. This means compensation begins at 30 minutes of delay rather than 15 minutes. You receive 50% for 30-59 minute delays and 100% for delays over 60 minutes.
- How long do I have to claim Delay Repay from ScotRail?
- You have 28 days from the date of travel to submit a Delay Repay claim to ScotRail.
- Can I claim ScotRail Delay Repay with a smartcard?
- Yes. If you use a ScotRail smartcard, provide your card details when submitting the Delay Repay claim.
- What if my ScotRail train was delayed by 15-29 minutes?
- Unfortunately, ScotRail uses the DR30 scheme, so delays of 15-29 minutes are not eligible for compensation. You need a delay of at least 30 minutes to claim from ScotRail.
